A Burnopp Metal chimney cap protects the entire top and sides of the chimney from water. Water cut the Grand Canyon and with time itwill destroy your masonry chimney. The top of most chimneys are covered with mortar. Even rock , block or brick chimneys are assembled on the sides using mortar. Mortar is very porous so when water hits the top of a masonry chimney and runs down the sides it starts the same process that created the Grand Canyon. Water can destroy a chimney very rapidly, especially in freezing temperatures. When water finds a crack, crevasse, or pocket hidden beneath the surface, water can puddle. When water freezes, it expands, pushing the crevasse or pocket apart, making it larger. The next time it rains, more water will fit in that spot. When it freezes, it will enlarge. This can keep happening until it destroys the chimney. By using a Burnopp Metal chimney cap you can stop this destruction, your chimney can look as good as it does now for years to come.
